So why is there a hot dog shoppe in the back of an historic Pittsburgh cathedral?
The story begins at Grove City College when two soon-to-be
graduates realized that they were soon-to-be unemployed. One had big
dreams of becoming the "Dave Thomas of Hot Dogs" by the age of 28; the
other had missionary training invested in a Pittsburgh-based house
church called Three Nails. The two joined forces with a third partner,
procuring his MBA, and Franktuary was conceived.
In 2003, Trinity Episcopal Cathedral donated their Oliver Avenue storefront to Three Nails.
The young church permitted its three aspiring entrepreneurs to run
their business in the storefront, and a profit sharing agreement was
arranged between Franktuary and Three Nails.
To help finance the endeavor, a remodeling grant was graciously awarded
by the Episcopal church and the restaurant began to take shape.
At Franktuary, we believe that both churches and restaurants are great places to feed the body and the soul.
Franks be to God!
