The FUN in Funeral
March 5th by Tim

Wow. If you missed Saturday’s funeral, you missed what quite possibly was the most enjoyable funeral in the history of the Earth. I don’t think I’m exaggerating.

We’ll talk more soon…

No Old Apparel
October 24th by Tim

Contrary to a report in the news, we are not selling any apparel with our old name. We are not in a legal position to do so and, therefore, will not be doing so. We apologize for the confusion.

All Moved In
October 23rd by Tim

Well, here we are at our new home on the web. I hope you like it. Look for our furniture to change over the next few months. Here’s hoping we’ll find the neighborhood to be quite nice!

As I’m sure many of you know, moving can be a big pain. Nonetheless, sometimes it’s best to change addresses despite the fact that you really enjoy your current place. Like, for example, when your neighbors happen to be extremely unpleasant or unreasonable people. Or when the heat in your rental stops working. Both of these are good reasons to move.

Fortunately, our physical home remains unchanged:
325 Oliver Avenue, Downtown Pittsburgh.

Come visit us Wednesday when we turn two years old!

It’s Official
October 17th by Tim

It’s official guys. Due to an ongoing legal dispute with a restaurant in Miami, FL, Hot D***a is changing its name to Franktuary. The change will be completed over the next few months. Once this entire ordeal is behind us, I hope to make regular updates to this blog once again. In the immediate future, please be advised that our website will be changing addresses to franktuary.com. When you visit this domain address you will be redirected there. Thanks for sticking with us!

Now for something truly interesting.

A customer of ours who has been homeless for over 25 years has just moved into his own place! He has nor has ever had any sort of substance abuse problem and is thrilled to be off the streets. The social worker who has been helping him credits his time spent in our store with being a key piece to his successful socialization. It’s just a really cool story. So, if you visit Hot D***a and wonder where the guy with the white beard who always used to sit in the corner is, know that he’s doing very well. In fact, I paid him a visit last night.

Big News
September 29th by Tim

The rumors are true. Hot D***a will be transitioning to a new name over the next six months.

A little bittersweet? Yes. A little silly? For sure. But, what can you do?

More details to come soon…

Rest your troubled mind, though, our food isn’t changing. Our address isn’t changing. We’re still the same restaurant!

Resolution
September 24th by Tim

Lately, a lot of things have been broken. That includes this blog. The fact that I’m writing this right now is highly symbolic, then. That’s because many things that have been problematic seem to have resolved themselves this week. For example, today we have a functional soda fountain for the first time in seven weeks.

With that in mind, expect to hear a big announcement from this very space sometime this week.

In the mean time, enjoy this light and fluffy thought. Cricket and croquet are nearly the same word. Cr___et. It makes me wonder if cricket was originally spelled criquet and pronounced cree-kay. Both sports use wickets, you know. Hmmmmm…

Freshman Orientation
August 23rd by Tim

I haven’t been a freshman of any sort since 1999, but last night I felt like a tender academic spring chicken once again. I was playing frisbee over on the CMU field at the corner of Forbes and Maggie Mo, when I noticed a large number of students rallying together on the adjacent football field.

Soon it became apparent that these students were from the CMU orientation committee. Music began pulsating from the stadium and hundreds of these orientation folks lined up to form a human tunnel for incoming freshmen to run through.

Speaking of tunnels, I’ll bet you didn’t know that the owner of The @$#%$ Grill in Miami, Florida is named David Tunnell. You’re probably also unfamiliar with the fact that I grew up across the street from a guy named David Fay in Summit, New Jersey. Clearly, those names are confusingly similar. Perhaps Mr. Tunnell should resort to a law suit.

Sorry about that digression, anyway, what I meant to tell you is that two friends and I joined a herd of freshmen and ran through the tunnel of humanity, giving and receiving high fives all over the place. What a rush! I highly recommend the experience.

Well, I don’t have much to say specifically about Hot D***a today, other than that you should come and eat here. Just remember, we’re in Pittsburgh, not Miami.

I’m An American!
June 13th by Tim

Hi folks!

I realized this morning, more than ever, that I am an American! Why, you ask?? Today I received a letter from some fine folks in Miami who want to sue Hot D***a because, in their opinion, we’re infringing on their trademark rights. Apparently there’s a place in Miami called the $#%@$ Grill. Even though the $#%@$ Grill is only located in Miami, they believe they’re nationally known and that consumers must be confused between our two companies, MORE THAN 1,000 MILES APART. We’ll see what comes of this…

Later in the afternoon, I received my quarterly tax form. Nothing says “I’m an American” like being threatened with a law suit for literally minding your own business and being reminded to file a complicated tax form in the same day! Glad to see that our system is working exactly as our forefathers intended! Does anyone know the way to Canada?
