Franktuary is on You Tube. Did you know?
Also, people read the Post-Gazette. Thanks to that great review from Munch, we’re coming off our best week ever. We wouldn’t be here without you, Pittsburgh, and we know it. Here’s to many more weeks like the one just passed!
In other news, the writer of this blog, currently away from Franktuary everyday, works as a cashier in a grocery store in New Jersey. His first customer yesterday declared, as she was checking out, her voyage to the supermarket to be an “emergency trip.” Will someone please explain how an emergency grocery run partially consists of purchasing 48 cans of cherry Pepsi??????????????????????????????????? I’ll tell you, the world we live in…
Munch, Pittsburgh’s famously anonymous food critic, has some kind things to say about Franktuary.
The feeling is mutual my mystery muncher!
Franktuary and the good people at Beleza Community Coffee House were on the radio today! In a real studio and everything. WORD FM played host and a few different topics were discussed. Not sure if the clip is online, but I encourage you to look for it. If you find it, put it in your “virtual” scrap book!
Happy Fourth of July, from Franktuary. To celebrate we will be closing at 3 pm on on July 3rd and staying closed through the fourth.
Happy belated Canada Day, too. Many of you my not know that the Franktuary website was the winner of a Canadian Web Award in 2005. It’s true.
Okay folks, until next time…
Word in the Post-Gazette is that Mayor Luke and the city council find themselves in a spat over whether giant 40 foot by 85 foot posters of Sidney Crosby and Marc-Andre Fleury should be hung on the skyscraper walls of Fifth Avenue Place during the Stanley Cup Finals. These posters would have a Reebok logo and slogan on them. Interestingly enough, both parties are in favor of seeing the posters go up. Ironically, because of the scuffle no posters will be going up. Ahhh, there’s nothing quite like the aroma of Pittsburgh politics in the air on a cool spring day!
Also, Mayor Luke is disappointed that he might not be able to take an all-expense paid trip to Detroit to see the Penguins play on the road. The poor guy has been able to go to games for free all season but, because of the ticket value of a finals game, he’d be breaking ethics rules by accepting a free pass to watch the Penguins right now. When the going gets “tough,” apparently our mayor voices his grievances in the newspaper. After all, with a $98,000 salary he certainly can’t afford to go to a game and support the city he governs on his own.
So, back to those posters. I’ve got an alternative plan. Why not giant 40 by 85 foot posters of Tim and Megan with the Franktuary logo and the phrase “Bun nation under God”? Luke, city council, this is your second chance.
Hiya, Pittsburgh! Thanks for voting us the third best restaurant in the entire city. Read more in the upcoming issue of Pittsburgh Magazine!
Now, if only we were the third most profitable restaurant in the entire city!
Until next time,
Franktuary

Franktuary is in love with iheartpgh.com. That’s because the webmaster of the aforementioned site plugged us extensively on Friday’s edition of the WDVE morning show. Truth be told we liked her before she did that.
Anyway, if you like Franktuary, do us a favor and go check out iheartpgh.com. Even if you don’t like Franktuary, check out iheartpgh.com. You might find something you DO like.
Last night a little place I like to call Franktuary was featured on WQED. This would probably be a more useful blog entry if I had written it yesterday.
Anyway, the previously referred to little place was part of the programming for the current episode of “OnQ.” I’m not sure whether OnQ is a weekly or monthly show, but keep your eyes peeled for it as you peruse the TV Listings over the next few days. The two other features on this particular episode feature some people who are doing some really worthwhile stuff around Pittsburgh.
As you may know, Franktuary was recently voted as serving Pittsburgh’s best hot dog in a city wide poll conducted by AOL City Guide.
I’ll tell you who else knows. A man named Taylor Johnson. He called the other day to congratulate Franktuary on its win. After taking way too long to get to his point he announced that on behalf of AOL he would like to present me with a returnable “lucite crystal” 5″ x 9″ award for only $179.
At that point I asked him if he worked for AOL CItyguide. He told me he worked “within the spotlight,” whatever that means. We’ve had a few chats since then.
Seems to me that if someone wants to present someone else with an “award” for an “achievement” that someone would want that someone else not to foot the bill.
